Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes
Coordinators: David RutherfordDeep River Church of Christ continues to support training youth for service and leadership through the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes program. Boys and girls from ages K-12 may choose from a variety of events in which to particpate, including oral bible reading, debate, song leading/songs of praise, speech, puppet theater, art, multimedia, Keepers, Providers, and Bible Bowl. Many Deep River youth, parents, and supporting adults travel to Atlanta, GA for the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes annual convention.
There are abundant opportunities to help support our youth in the Lads to Leaders ministry, such as coaching students as they prepare for events, assisting with speeches, making props, udging events at the convention, or simply showing up to encourage and learn.
More about Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes (From lads2leaders.com):
"L2L is the oldest and largest leadership training program used by the churches of Christ today. It is a tool churches of Christ can use to help prepare their youth and adults for service in the Kingdom of God and help develop their overall leadership potential.
The goal of L2L is to provide churches of Christ with effective, year-round leadership training tools that can be adapted to individual congregational needs.
The purpose of L2L is to help local congregations instill the Word of God into youth and adults so that they will stand firm in the faith. Teaching students to do “Bible things in Bible ways” is the essence of L2L."

More InformationR.A.P.I.D.S - Deep River Youth/Teen Ministry
Coordinators: Todd HammOur R.A.P.I.D.S. group is aimed at helping our Youth in grades 6 - 12 to create Christ based social ties and fellowship bonds that will lead them to further their spiritual development and growth. We will strive to arm them with the spiritual weapons needed to withstand the influences and temptations of today’s world. The R.A.P.I.D.S. Youth Ministry is designed to support all of our Youth programs, such as Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes, Carolina Bible Camp, Youth Rallies, etc, while offering new opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth.
The goal of R.A.P.I.D.S. is to offer additional avenues to train and develop our Youth into strong Christian young men and women with the Faith skills needed to stay strong against the pressures of their peers and temptations of the outside world. We hope to provide opportunities for our Youth to combine and use the skills they learn from all parts of our Youth programs - like Lads, CBC, Youth Rallies, Bible Classes. We want to prepare them address and cope with issues faced by teens today.
R.A.P.I.D.S. will meet twice a month. At least one of those meetings will be held on Sundays from 5:00pm - 7:00pm, at our Deep River building. Those Sunday gatherings will include a meal, fellowship time, singing, and a devotional - much like our Small Groups, but directed at just our Youth.
Other R.A.P.I.D.S. events will take place at different times and locations, and will vary by month. Those events can be fun weekend social outings like our recent trip to Carowinds, travel to a nearby Youth Rally, bowling, service events in the community, or gatherings with the youth of sister congregations.
More InformationVacation Bible School (VBS)
Coordinators: Leslie Garvin/LIFT MinistryThe VBS ministry is an opportunity for outreach to families with young children in the community, in addition to serving the children of our congregation. Children ages 3-12 yrs meet for one or more days to participate in fun Christ-centered activities including: Bible teaching, Crafts, Games, and Songs. The scriptures teach us to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6). VBS is an opportunity to do this training and to let the children know that God loves them.
More InformationYouth/Children’s Education

The purpose of the Youth/Children’s Education Ministry is to introduce to children God’s word as the building blocks of a solid spiritual foundation and the beginning of a life-long intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
Ages 0-5:
Children’s classes begin with Cradle Roll through age 5. Loving and experienced adult volunteers ensure a safe and nurturing environment for infants. Pre-school classes (ages 2&3 and 4&5) are taught using fun-filled interactive lessons already designed by ministry members. Volunteers who work with all of our children are vetted and background checked.
Grades 1-6:
Journey Land is a Bible-centered, interactive pre-designed curriculum for Grades 1st – 6th that teaches biblical stories/themes and principles by walking (journeying) through the Bible in monthly rotations in a three-year cycle, including the following classes:
HIStory/Memory Makers - introduces children to the biblical holy lands and geography via maps, timelines, storytelling and includes a discussion of the culture of those times.
Theater - children become intimately familiar with biblical events and scriptural principles by re-enacting the many events in the Bible
Listen Up - nurtures musical interest by introducing songs
Play Station - helps children learn memory verses and biblical facts in a workshop full of interactive games and activities
Truth Lab - instills long-term knowledge of “life” principles grounded in scripture
Gifted Hands - children create projects, prepare meals typical of the day, and other artistic activities to reinforce their knowledge of the Bible.
Grades 7 & 8:
Pathways, designed for pre-teens in Grades 7th and 8th (and as a follow-up to the Journey Land curriculum), is aimed at bringing our youth into a deeper relationship with and understanding of God, His word, and His direction for their lives. Teachers encourage honest discussions and a safe space to talk about conversational topics such as school, family, and faith.
